Criminal Law and Evidence Update

Fantastic Turnout for IRLI’s 2nd Annual Criminal Law CPD Seminar

On Saturday 8th November IRLI held a fundraiser in The Bar of Ireland’s Distillery Building in Dublin. The event, a Criminal Law and Evidence Update, received a wonderful turnout for a rainy Saturday morning and was a success due to the detailed papers written by Junior Counsel and Solicitors which were then endorsed and presented at the event by eminent Senior Counsel and Solicitors.

A huge thanks to Jame Dwyer BL, solicitor Aoife McNicholl, Eoin Lawlor BL, Oisin Clarke BL, Sinead Skelly BL and Tessa White BL  for all the effort that went into researching and writing the papers for the event.

The event itself was chaired by Supreme Court Judge the Hon. Ms. Justice Iseult O’Malley and presentations were made by Michael O’Higgins SC, Conor Devally SC, Patrick McGrath SC, Michael McDowell SC, Mary-Rose Gearty SC, Remy Farrell SC, Shane Murphy SC and solicitor Dara Robinson.

Chairman of the Bar of Ireland, and IRLI Director, David Barniville was also in attendance and made opening remarks at the event which was attended by 130 people and raised over €4,200 for the work of IRLI. All proceeds will go towards supporting the work of IRLI.  IRLI is also very grateful to Matheson solicitors who sponsored the printing of the booklet of papers for the attendees.

Thanks must also be given to Tessa White BL, Niamh Barry BL, Matthew Holmes BL and solicitor Fiona McNulty who volunteered to help on the day.

The event was dedicated to the late Brendan Nix SC who was due to present a paper but sadly passed away suddenly over the summer. Tributes were made by the speakers and Brendan’s memory was honoured in their presentations.
