Eithne and Ruth win the Bar Council Human Rights Award

The second Danske Bank Irish Law Awards 2013 took place today at the Four Seasons Hotel Dublin, with awards across twenty-three categories recognising excellence at all levels of the law industry in Ireland.

Hosted by broadcaster Miriam O’ Callaghan, the awards identified legal individuals, teams and firms who made outstanding contributions to Irish law during 2012.

The winners of the inaugural Bar Council Human Rights Award were two IRLI volunteers Ruth Dowling and Eithne Lynch, “whose legal work has made a profound change in the rights and wellbeing of those without a voice.”

The award recognised the pioneering work of the Malawi project and commended Ruth and Eithne on showing “interminable commitment, ingenuity and tenacity in their work.”

IRLI would like to congratulate Ruth and Eithne on receiving this great honour. Their dedication to working within the prisons in Malawi has been unwavering and it is through their sheer perseverance that the project has achieved what it has to date.
